The Experience, Richmond: Sailing Goat Restaurant Day Trip

The Experience: Want to get away from it all? It’s always fun to watch first timers as they descend the hill to Point San Pablo Harbor past the goats to the Sailing Goat Restaurant on the dock. Surprise, bewilderment, glee, gasping, “I had no idea this was here!” Huge outdoor sculptures greet you as you park your car and then a bit of serenity envelopes you as you sit down for lunch. Dive into the Classic Fish & Chips first. Made with the local fish of the day, served with French fries and  tartar sauce (they have a dedicated fryer). The breading is light and the fish  moist. And the fries of course, top it off. If you are more in the breakfast mode, the Summer Frittata is a fantastic Brunch treat with summer squash, corn, potatoes and Manchego cheese, served with a mixed green salad. Many more options with lots of gluten-free choices. It’s peaceful looking out over the water and walking down through the marina

The Experience, Alameda: Mosley’s Cafe + Trail Walk

The Experience: The morning that turned into a treat! You've been in this situation. You are on deadline plus, you have to deliver something somewhere and you have to walk the dog. I experienced it yesterday morning. Strapped by time, I threw the dog in the car along with SF on the Bay's Alameda Trail Guides and drove to Mosley’s Café at the end of Grand Ave near the boat ramp - your go-to Café on the water. Once I gave owner Scott Mosley the maps, I drooled over the freshly baked pasties on display, but was tight for time. I asked him how far I can walk on the trail heading towards Webster St. He thought it is now open all the way to Alameda Point. With a husky in tow, I have to get mileage in if I want to work in peace the rest of the day. Got the dog and went trekking, promising I would be back soon to relax with a coffee & one of those great homemade pastries with Summer. What a great walk along the shore of the Alameda/Oakland Estuary with water views, parks, natural habitat. We only did 1.5 mi out to catch a fun view and audible revelry (!) of the Youth Sailing Club out in front of Encinal Yacht Club
