The Experience, Oakland: Oakland Zoo + Glofari

The Experience: Come to the zoo for the holidays! Take a relaxing gondola ride up to the California Trails and look out over the Bay Area. If you are lucky, you may even catch a stunning sunset. California Trails provides habitats for many rescued animals and educates you about endangered species and conservation. Sequoia featured here. In December of 2017, two gray wolves (Sequoia and Siskiyou have since passed) arrived at the Oakland Zoo. They were moved to their habitat, a two acre parcel up in the California Trails section, once they were acclimated to finally be introduced to the public. Shy, reclusive and sensitive in nature, wolves, unlike dogs, commonly mate for life and therefore take time to develop relationships. Upon their arrival, zookeepers, volunteers and docents made every effort to ensure the wolves had an ideal environment and atmosphere to ensure their comfort and emotional well-being. When wolves feel comfortable, they are more likely to bond and have offspring.
