WHAT: Bay Street Emeryville is hosting a Holiday Job Fair in the Central Plaza just as holiday festivities are about to begin. Retailers such as Sephora, Victoria’s Secret, Sunglass Hut, Uniqlo, Old Navy, Charming Charlie’s, Cornology, Forever 21, Apple, Overton Security and others are offering seasonal work and permanent positions. Bring your resume, if you have one!

Country Joe McDonald Livens up Citizens for East Shore Parks Celebration

CESP (Citizens for East Shore Parks) is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a Fundraiser Brunch and Day in the Park on Sat., Nov. 7, from 10:30am – 1:30pm at the Berkeley Yacht Club and in McLaughlin Eastshore State Park. Music is provided by Country Joe McDonald and Catering by Saffron Strand.

CESP will honor Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates, former GM of East Bay Regional Park District, Pat O’Brien and celebrate the formation of McLaughlin Eastshore State Park – named for Honorary Committee Chair Sylvia McLaughlin, founder of CESP and Save the Bay.

The program will acknowledge the individuals and groups who came together to establish the 8.5 mile urban shoreline park full of trails and outdoor wonder, extending from Oakland through Emeryville, Berkeley, Albany, El Cerrito and into Richmond. Emeryville Mayor Ruth Atkins is also on the Honorary Committee of CESP. For more details or to purchase a ticket, click here. If you cannot attend, CESP is always looking for volunteers.

CESP, founded in 1985, is a small non-profit environmental organization that creates parks and preserves open space. They work to protect critical habitat and wildlife, conserve natural resources and develop outdoor recreation opportunities.

The Broken Rack Sports Bar & Billiards

Full bar plus 12 beers on tap. Besides 20 pool tables and 8 TVs, they have all kinds of Burgers, Quick Bites such as Chicken Wings and Quesadillas, lots of Salads, Soup, Sandwiches and Fries, Chips, Rings and Things. Wings are tossed in your choice of Buffalo, BBQ or Sweet Chili Sauce Buffalo and BBQ served with Ranch or Bleu Cheese Dressing. Salads include Chicken and Shrimp Caesars, Shrimp and Avocado and even Buffalo Chicken Salad – Buffalo chicken bites on a bed of kale & mixed greens with vegetables, crumbled Bleu Cheese & Bleu Cheese Dressing!

Honor Kitchen & Cocktails

Honor Kitchen revolves around its grill, which is right in the middle of the bar. A few fun and delectable suggestions:

  • Bucket O’ Yard Birds –buttermilk fried chicken, macaroni salad, sausage biscuit and house-made hot sauce
  • Bone Marrow Brulee -Yelp reviewers rave about this dish– it’s a must, they say
  • Hand-Cranked Sausages – their in-house butcher grinds and cases their sausages and serves it with house-made mustard
  • Charcuterie & Cheese – basic board includes house-pickled vegetables, house-made white lardo spread, lemon-apricot mostarda, rustic French bread. Then you add Honored Meats & Cheeses of your choice from the menu
  • And there’s the Five Cheese Mac ‘n Cheese with aged Gouda, Cheddar, Gruyere, Jack, Parmesan and bread crumbs.

Fishing Report 9.29

salmonboysOn Tues., Sept. 29 Emeryville Sportfishing sent out two boats with 25 anglers. The Catch? 50 Lingcod, 4 Chinook (King) Salmon and 200 Rockfish.

Dungeness Crab Season is just around the corner. Recreational Crab Season opens Nov. 7, 2015 with commercial scheduled to follow on Nov. 15, Ocean salmon fishing winds down Oct. 31.

So far in 2015 Emeryville Sportfishing has brought in:

  • 264 Dungeness Crab
  • 276 Californi Halibut
  • 1,938 Chinook (King) Salmon
  • 5,216 Striped Bass and
  • 6,230 Sanddab
  • 7,160 Lingcod and
  • 59,475 Rockfish!

“Every day hundreds of artists are working in Emeryville and this juried exhibition is their yearly showcase,” explains Sharon Wilchar, exhibition coordinator.

By Opening Night over 100 artists who work or live in Emeryville will have transformed Grifols DIagnostic Solutions’ donated space at 5745 Peladeau St. in Emeryville into a living exhibit of paintings, sculptures, photographs, ceramics and textile arts. In its 29th year, running from Oct. 3-25, the show will again integrate poetry readings and dance performances into Emeryville’s Annual Art Exhibit, celebrating the talent and creativity that abounds in this 1.2 square mile city.
