KARIBU by Wachira wine lounge is the home of Wachira Wines, an extraordinary vision and effort of Dr. Chris Wachira, the first Kenyan-born, Californian winemaker. As a young immigrant, Chris fell in-love with the science of winemaking and developed a deep appreciation for the sense of community built from sharing a bottle of wine with complete strangers. Her story is about equity and the ability to succeed through adversity. The lounge is a a welcoming community filled with great wine, art and camaraderie.

    Introduction to Oil Painting with Veronica Aguilar

    Here’s your plan to develop your oil painting skills and learn how to create a dynamic composition. Six sessions on Thursdays from 6-8pm: Aug. 7, 14, 21, 28 & Sept. 4, 11

    Start oil painting as a new experience or experience this class as a refresher course. Get ready to discover your personal expression and have fun! You will develop confidence in brush handling and proper care. You’ll learn how values (lights and darks) play an important role in your painting and understand color theory and the principles of design. Learn color mixing skills to create interesting variations, play with color, experiment with techniques and learn more about yourself.

    About the Instructor:  Veronica is an Oakland native and has her BFA in Fine Art Painting from Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Currently pursuing her MFA , she enjoys painting urban landscapes from all of her world travels. Currently she is producing a series of figure paintings featuring Mexican Ballet Folklorico dancers.  @Lovesmangos_art.

    This is the ultimate burger!

    Grab your friends and take a break out at Alameda Point. You are supposed to be indulging in all kinds of new burgers during the official Bay Area Burger Week.

    Bay Area Burger Week is a 12-day celebration of special menus around the San Francisco Bay Area honoring America’s greatest contribution to global culinary culture: the burger.

    Featured here is Scolari’s Good Eats offering from their food truck at Almanac – the Blueberry Bacon Blue Cheeseburger. It’s made with a peppercorn Crusted Pattie, Blueberry Sauce, Bacon, Blue Cheese Arugula, Red Onion and Basil Aioli all on a fresh Challah Bun!

    If this sounds too ‘out there’ for you, you can order their Classic Cheeseburger made with American cheese, pickle, butter lettuce, red onion, tomato and house sauce on a Challah Bun. And then there’s the Wimpy Burger made on a Sesame Bun with ketchup, onion, mustard and pickle.
