The Experience, Alameda: La Penca Azul Expands

The Experience:

Ready for Authentic Mexican Street Tacos & a Margarita?

Handmade tortillas and fresh salsas made daily. Delicious tacos topped with fresh cilantro and pickled onions, antojitos, burritos, quesadillas, and more. They have a fun Tequila Bar serving only 100% blue agave Tequilas, plus cocktails, beer, and wine. Both locations are open in Alameda – one on Park St and the other on Bay Farm Island. And if you are traveling toward Sacramento, La Penca Azul just opened their newest location in Vacaville at 112 Nut Tree Parkway, right off the freeway. Their sister restaurant is called Que Onda TacoBar. The Tacos de Costra and Papa Loca look great! And another Que Onda TacoBar will be opening in Walnut Creek soon. Congrats La Penca Azul! The Experience, Alameda: Almanac Beer Co. New Beer

The Experience:

New Hours + New Tropical DIPA!

From grain to glass, the folks at Almanac brew a bold and delicious range of fresh and barrel-aged beers. Fans are raving about Almanac’s new Simian Squad DIPA. Simian Squad was dreamed up with their friends at Barebottle Brewing Co while enjoying a revered local tiki drink made with tamarind, coconut, and lime. So, they decided to brew a beer using the same ingredients!

The result: a juicy hazy double IPA bursting with tropical fruit notes and lime zest. They added a dry-hop of Sabro and Citra to double down on the tropical aroma.  Almanac suggests that you crack one open and prepare to climb a tree and pound your chest in delight.

Simian Squad is available now for pickup at the taproom, shipping statewide, or sipping in the beer garden, now open 7 days a week for outdoor seating! Food Trucks daily: Scolari’s Good Eats or Santa Torta. Hours: Sunday-Thursday, 12-7pm; Fridays & Saturdays, 12pm-8pm. 415-992-3438 Ext. 1

The Experience, Alameda: Rhythmix Cultural Works New Exhibit

The Experience:

Spring Performance: Meet Rupy!

You can meet Rupy C. Tut, one of the four featured artists in Rhythmix’s Spring Performance, Art & Learning Gallery Exhibit at the Virtual Reception Friday, April 16th @ 7 pm on Zoom. RSVP below for the link.

You will find her illuminating because Rupy, born in Punjab, India, is an Oakland based calligrapher and painter dissecting historical and contemporary displacement narratives around identity, belonging, and gender.

Her work engages in the strict practice of traditional materials, calligraphy, and methodology with Indian ‘miniature painting’, as she adds contemporary images and characters to a centuries old visual language.

Inspired by the Rhythmix PAL program and sponsored by Alameda Education Foundation’s Art Across the Island, the Spring 2021 PAL Gallery brings together four visual artists, Malik Seneferu, Sharon Virtue, Rupy C. Tut, and Maryln Mori, whose work celebrates the local cultures and communities that make living in the Bay Area so rich.

It’s free! Sign up now! https://www.rhythmix.org/events/pal-gallery-spring-2021/
