WHAT: Richmond’s Main Street Initiative presents their 17th annual Spirit & Soul Festival!

The Spirit & Soul festival activates downtown Richmond with fun activities and music for everybody.

The Spirit & Soul Festival in its 17th year, is a free, community-centered cultural event that has become a tradition in Downtown Richmond. On Saturday August 29th, 12 pm – 5 pm the festival activates 6 blocks on Macdonald Avenue, transforming the street into a vibrant space for arts, culture, wellness, and community connection. As part of the festivities they will have Live Performances, a Classic Car Show, Health and Resource Hub, a buzzing Kid’s Zone, and Games, Food and Beverage Pavilion, Artisan and Craft Vendors.

Highlights:

Ms. Buttah & the Buttahluv Band are ready to take you on a musical journey back in time to when Rhythm & Blues was first born, right out of the Swing Era to the Funk Soulful Sounds of the 70’s.

Andre Thierry will Play some of your favorite Soul Music on Accordion.

Plus: There is usually Dancing on Main Street!

Spirit & Soul Live + Streaming in Downtown Richmond!

What do El Garage restaurant, a Prince tribute band and $500 in cash have in common? That would be Richmond Main Street Initiative’s (RMSI) 13th Annual Sprit & Soul Festival, set for Saturday, September 18 in downtown Richmond.

Free Virtual Broadcast, 2pm – 3pm: Streaming LIVE on KOFY TV20Facebook LiveYouTube Live, and Instagram Live. Featuring phenomenal performances by Top ShelfLos Cenzontles w/ Los Originarios, and rising Richmond artist Wanda Gonzalez.

VIP Watch Party, 2pm – 4pm: Hosted at El Garage in Downtown at 1428 Macdonald Avenue and featuring the virtual broadcast, fabulous food, libations, prizes, and an exclusive after-party performance by 1st Avenue Revue, the Bay Area’s #1 Prince Tribute Band.

Food & Libations: Special El Garage prix fix plate, chips, guacamole, and salsa bar, RMSI famous Main Street Margaritas, East Brother Beer and Aguas Fresca.

Spirit & Soul Revs Up Richmond’s Main Street! Dance to ‘Prince’ With 1st Avenue Revue Tribute Band!

WHEN: Saturday, September 16, 1-5pm

WHERE: MacDonald Ave @ Harbour Way (13th St) in Downtown Richmond

WHAT: Richmond’s Main Street Initiative presents their 9th annual Spirit & Soul Festival!

  • Phenomenal entertainment on two stages1
    • Longtime friend and community advocate, Gerry Dove (102.9 KBLX, Promotions Director), will serve as the MC for the Main Stage, whose line-up includes electric performances by 1st Avenue Revue, the Bay Area’s #1 Prince tribute band; sassy Jazz, Blues, and Soul by Richmond’s own Rhonda Benin; and classic American Rock & Roll by PUSH featuring Dan Ashley.
    • The 12th Street Stage, presented by the RYSE Center will feature performances by local singers and songwriters SHARI and Ronnie Mills, plus phenomenal artistry from the ROOTS Dance Team, The Sistaaz, and Rhythm & Poetry spoken word collective. In between the two stages, guests can enjoy the festival’s outdoor marketplace featuring local food and artisan vendors offering an eclectic array of delicious food and unique items, and the beverage pavilion

Following the recent announcement from Hollywood actor Wendell Pierce about investing in Downtown development projects, Richmond Main Street is preparing for significant changes that will transform Downtown into a thriving commercial district envisioned by its residents, property owners, and other stakeholders. The Spirit & Soul Festival will once again prominently put on display Downtown’s often overlooked assets and opportunities.

RMSI will also honor several individuals who have been instrumental in giving of their time, resources, and expertise to support the revitalization efforts as Downtown Champions.

Admission is free in order to provide guests more opportunities to dance, celebrate, and support local artisans, food vendors, and Downtown merchants. Proceeds from beverage sales, drawings, and vendors booths, will benefit the organization’s mission to revitalize historic Downtown Richmond.
