The Experience, Oakland: Community Plea

The Experience:

Former Emeryville Coffeehouse owner seeks your help!

Latest Update.

Chris Hillyard and wife Amy were fervent coffeehouse owners on 65th in Emeryville and wonderful community members until 2016. We still remember them for their great community spirit and support.

And now we want to return the support. His wife Amy has been missing since March 25, 2026.

Amy was last seen on Wednesday, March 25, sometime after 2pm in the vicinity of the 500 block of Radnor Road in Oakland. Amy is 5’4”, approximately 120 pounds, with blonde hair and hazel eyes. She was wearing a white short-sleeved shirt, light-colored jeans, and white sneakers with black stripes. She is considered at risk due to a medical condition. OPD found a video about a week later showing that on the day of her disappearance she was at Oakland’s Diamond Park. No further information.

Chris and his two girls are desperate for information that will lead to her return. If you can help, please visit their website for more information. Thank you from the SF on the Bay team and our Emeryville business community.

The Experience, Oakland: Oakland Zoo + Glofari

The Experience:

Come to the zoo for the holidays!

Take a relaxing gondola ride up to the California Trails and look out over the Bay Area. If you are lucky, you may even catch a stunning sunset. California Trails provides habitats for many rescued animals and educates you about endangered species and conservation.

Sequoia featured here. In December of 2017, two gray wolves (Sequoia and Siskiyou have since passed) arrived at the Oakland Zoo. They were moved to their habitat, a two acre parcel up in the California Trails section, once they were acclimated to finally be introduced to the public.

Shy, reclusive and sensitive in nature, wolves, unlike dogs, commonly mate for life and therefore take time to develop relationships. Upon their arrival, zookeepers, volunteers and docents made every effort to ensure the wolves had an ideal environment and atmosphere to ensure their comfort and emotional well-being. When wolves feel comfortable, they are more likely to bond and have offspring.

Waiting patiently to see if they would mate, visitors were thrilled with their first four pups. Make sure you meet this beautiful gray wolf family when you tour the zoo. Advanced ticket reservations required.

Nighttime show: If you want to experience a wildly illuminating festival of lanterns, get your tickets now to Glofari. It lasts until January 25, 4:30-9pm. Tickets

The Experience, Oakland: Waldear Kegerators Beer

The Experience:

Ghost Town Pouring WK Homebrew!

Join Waldear Kegerators down at the Laurel District Ghost Town Brewing tonight –   Thursday, February 2 at 7pm. They chose Pablo’s Postre,  his petite pastry stout as a featured local home-brewer beer. It clocks in at 7.35% ABV and is conditioned on Tahitian vanilla beans soaked in Japanese whiskey, toasted coconut flakes, toasted taco nibs and cardamon seeds. You’ll like the hint of vanilla.  It’s lighter in body than most stouts and has a nice aromatic punch with notes of chocolate, herbal warmth and a menthol type flavor. Plus great food on their menu.

Ghost Town Brewing’s Beer Garden + Kitchen is located at 3506 MacArther Blvd in the Laurel District of Oakland.

The Experience, Oakland: Oakland Zoo Rescue

The Experience:

Meet Lola + Mia!

Visit Lola and Mia now living in their Tiger Habitat at the Oakland Zoo after almost three months of rehabilitation.

They were rescued from a defunct, abandoned drive-thru roadside zoo in northeast Oklahoma that offered cub petting and photo opportunities.  Fortunate for them, a concerned resident alerted the Oakland Zoo which is committed to rescuing and giving a permanent home to animals in need.

Oakland Zoo and Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge travelled to the defunct roadside zoo, conducted onsite animal evaluations and Oakland Zoo funded the rescue with the help of a state-of-the-art, self-contained animal rescue hauler owned by Lions, Tigers, and Bears.

For the past thirty years, we’ve fully committed Oakland Zoo’s tiger habitat as a sanctuary for tigers victimized by the circus, roadside zoo, private ownership, and cub-petting industries,” said Nik Dehejia, ceo of Oakalnd Zoo. “Those tigers need help, and we can provide that help. When a concerned Oklahoma resident called us to help these big cats, who have endured so much suffering, there was no question that we would step in and give them the homes and care they deserve for the remainder of their lives.”

After the passing of their last four rescue tigers, Oakland Zoo now has a tiger hybrid who arrived in poor condition and with a badly infected tooth that has caused facial deformity, and bowed legs, along with another tiger from a separate enclosure who was quite lean upon arrival. The animal care team named them Lola & Mia.

Now they are living healthy lives in their own habitat, and you can visit them! Visit them around feeding time and you can get up close as they are waiting for their chow.Featured below is one of the four-year old gray wolves born at the zoo and a rescue mountain lion, along with the story of Lola + Mia.. Tasty Bites & Beverages, including beer and wine, along with Bay Area panoramic views at the Landing Cafe atop the gondola in California Trails.

Advanced ticket reservations required.
