The Experience, Alameda: Rhythmix Cultural Works Rising Seas

The Experience:

Calling all artists!

Our friends at Rhythmix Cultural Works (RCW) are seeking artists working in visual arts, movement, music, spoken word, and more, with an environmental focus to lead interactive workshops on climate change.

These workshops will host 20-25 seniors, families or formerly unhoused residents at one of three Alameda Housing Authority (AHA) locations. Fluency in Korean, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Spanish, or Arabic is a plus but not required.

Workshops will take place between April and May 2025, leading up to Rising Seas performances on May 31, June 21, and July 12. Artists will also be asked to provide creative hands-on activities for at least one of these live events.

Selected artists may be invited to exhibit in RCW’s K Gallery (June–August). A $500 stipend will be provided per workshop (stipend amount is inclusive of materials fees).

Application deadline is extended until tomorrow, March 7th.

About

Dashe Cellars is a family-owned artisan winery located in the heart of the Urban Wine Country at Alameda Point. After 15 years in Oakland’s Jack London Square district, Dashe Cellars moved to Spirits Alley on the old Naval Airbase in Alameda, CA.

They focus on crafting wines with a distinctive sense of place and look for that perfect balance of steep hillside vineyards, older vines, and vigor-reducing growing conditions.

Founded by Michael and Anne Dashe, Dashe Cellars crafted its first vintage of Dry Creek Zinfandel in 1996. Since that time, the Dashe’s have focused on producing exceptional, single-vineyard wines using a traditional, non-industrial approach to winemaking

The Experience, Alameda: Rhythmix Cultural Works Folk Opera

The Experience:

Nature, a bridge and an evocative story.

Join the folks at Rythmix on Saturday, February 8th at 7pm and experience Flight Lessons, a Folk Opera by Deborah Crooks. It’s a story you will retell again and again.

Inspired by true events on Oakland’s Fruitvale Bridge, Flight Lessons tells the story of Peregrine Falcons and humans coexisting at the edge of wild and urban life.

The narrative follows an urban wildlife biologist as she monitors a breeding pair of falcons nesting on the bridge. When one bird is tragically shot, the lives of the falcons and the human community around them become deeply intertwined.

Exploring themes of home, migration, adaptation, and resilience, Flight Lessons examines the connections between life, loss, and the natural world. It asks: How do we learn to value nature in an urban environment? And how do we recover and move forward after profound loss? Tix/more info: https://www.rhythmix.org/events/flight-lessons/
