The Experience, Alameda: Rhythmix Cultural Works Presents

The Experience:

Musician Deborah Crooks helps you take flight!

Saturday, February 8th at 7pm, dive into Flight Lessons, an inspiring Folk Opera, based on a true story of Peregrine Falcons nesting on Oakland’s Fruitvale Bridge. It’s the story of the falcons and humans coexisting at the edge of wild and urban life, with the narrative following an urban wildlife biologist.

When tragedy strikes, the lives of these remarkable birds and their human neighbors intersect in a powerful tale of resilience, adaptation and connection.

How do we value the wild in urban spaces? How do we heal after loss? This is an inspiring story at the crossroads of nature and humanity.

Tickets for Flight Lessons, A Folk Opera by Deborah Crooks are available now.

About

Deborah Crooks has released several collections of critically noted original music, including the 2013 release Little Bird (produced by Art Khu and described as “a masterful piece of work”), 2016’s 7-song CD Beauty Everywhere, and her latest, the 11-song collection The Department of the West (2019). Born and raised in California, Deborah grew up surrounded by nature, but close enough to San Francisco to be influenced by the city’s history of social, musical and political upheaval. Her work has evolved over her years studying natural history at UC Santa Cruz, writing and poetics at The Naropa Institute in Boulder, CO; voice and yoga in Mysore, India, and co-writing and collaborating with her Bay Area peers. Along with her solo musical work, she co-founded the band Bay Station and its “Love the Bay Music & Sailing video series with Kwame Copeland.
