Halloween Shopping Spurs Holiday Spirit!

It’s not too late to create your Halloween scene – Whales &  Friends has you covered from Cheerful to Ghoulish or Spooky. That celebratory spirit is filling up the store as they start bringing out the ornaments and gifts for the rest of the holidays. Staff is waiting to help you, starting with Halloween accents for your home. You can pick your favorite Halloween pillows, ornaments, and other fun décor to create some Halloween cheer.

Be sure to browse their gift ideas before you leave, especially their curated collection of hand crafted jewelry, including their own beautiful expanded line – Bamboo Jewelry. It’s hand crafted by fusing kiln fired powdered glass onto a sterling silver foundation, a centuries old process known as cloisonné – showcasing favorite birds, whales and other marine animals, panda bears, elephants, turtles, butterflies, and more.

The Experience, Alameda: The Park Street Tavern Menu

The Experience:

Mediterranean Classics with a Twist

Look what’s on the menu: Pork Belly over Greek butter beans and sautéed spinach with a balsamic glaze (featured here). Fans say it’s yum!

Feel conflicted between seafood and pasta? Check out one of their classic menu items – Capellini Scampi – sautéed shrimp with a lemon-garlic white wine sauce. If you are craving  comfort food, try their Penne Pasta with a spicy tomato sauce and fresh mozzarella.

Some of their other Mediterranean favorites: The Orzo and Salmon is served with baby spinach, mushrooms and roasted tomatoes in a vodka garlic sauce and the Homemade Gnocchi with Pesto is made with a pesto sauce with mushrooms and roasted cherry tomatoes. Another big hit, the Lamb Paidakia is a Greek marinated and grilled lamb chop served with a hot Greek potato salad with roasted red potatoes, cauliflower, cherry tomatoes, kalamata olives, arugula and crispy polenta.

You can always stop by the lounge, with the welcoming vibe of a neighborhood bar, for some small bites & your fav from the wine or cocktail list. Hours: Daily 4-9pm. Bar opens at 4pm. Dinner at 5pm. They look forward to seeing you! (510) 671-2867

The Experience, Alameda: Faction Brewing Co. Collaboration

The Experience:

‘Going to Feed the Meter’ in Emeryville & Alameda!

Faction just dropped an epic beer in collaboration with their friends over at Emeryville’s  Wondrous Brewing Company.

Going To Feed the Meter is a righteous Pale with a mouthful of flavor, hopped with Mosaic, Centennial, and Amarillo. [5.6%]

“This is a special beer made in honor of our late friend Mike ‘Tasty’ McDole, whom we miss dearly,” (FB note). Mike was a world-renowned homebrewer, and rose to fame after winning numerous brewing competitions including the Sam Adams Longshot competition. He went on to brew collaboration beers with many commercial breweries including Russian River, 21st Amendment, and Heretic. Mike was a member of the DOZE homebrew club here in the Bay Area, and it was there that he started his illustrious brewing journey.

Stock Up on Summer Beer!

Add some fresh flavors and choices to your fridge this week. 1970’s Lager and Pale 586 cans are now available at their online store, and available for pick up Wednesday-Sunday.

This industrial corn brewed 1970’s Lager (3.9%) is the perfect Summer sipper for these hot days – crisp and crushable!

Pal 586 is their West Coast Pale Ale hopped with HBC 586 cryo and pellets, an experimental hop variety from the Hop Breeding Company with massive, delicious notes of tropical fruit. (5.8%).

Order online and pickup when you head out for a pint with your friends.

Anchovies Anyone?

Fans say their favorite appetizer at Park St Tavern is the Lefkas Bruschetta! Ionian white anchovies, chopped capers and red onions served on grilled freshly made Bruschetta. Very Mediterranean.
