The Experience:

Zinfandel making a comeback?

Here’s what Ray Isle says about Alameda’s Dashe Cellars in Food & Wine’s article California Zinfandel is Making a Comeback and it’s Better Than Ever, where he argues that California Zin is shedding its old reputation of being heavy and high-alcohol as wine makers now are producing sleek, streamlined and food friendly red wines with lower alcohol content.

“2023 Dashe Cellars Vineyard Select Zinfandel ($25) Mike Dashe founded his eponymous winery in 1996 and has been producing Zinfandels like this one ever since: silky, juicy, and delightful, in this case with minty boysenberry flavors. Don’t look for wild complexity here; seek out his reserve and single-vineyard wines for that. It’s just Zin being utterly charming, which it does so well.”

They’re open Friday–Sunday—come taste it for yourself.

About

Dashe Cellars is a family-owned artisan winery located in the heart of the Urban Wine Country at Alameda Point. After 15 years in Oakland’s Jack London Square district, Dashe Cellars moved to Spirits Alley on the old Naval Airbase in Alameda, CA.

They focus on crafting wines with a distinctive sense of place and look for that perfect balance of steep hillside vineyards, older vines, and vigor-reducing growing conditions.

Founded by Michael and Anne Dashe, Dashe Cellars crafted its first vintage of Dry Creek Zinfandel in 1996. Since that time, the Dashe’s have focused on producing exceptional, single-vineyard wines using a traditional, non-industrial approach to winemaking.
