Emeryville Gains Renown for Grapes!

Who would have known. Were there once vineyards in Emeryville? Annie’s Annuals announces Vitis ‘Emeryville Pink’ Grape grown from a seedling found in Emeryville by the Bay.

Because of California Rare Fruit Growers and their own favorite food farmer, propagator Annie Jensen, Annie’s Annuals offers up the best grape to grow in coastal areas in the San Francisco Bay Area. ‘Emeryville Pink’ bears an abundance of flavorful mid-size pink fruit with seeds so tiny, there’s no need to spit them out. It grows six to eight feet the first year and then takes off in year two with a great yield.

According to gardener Josh Hincks, “This grape doesn’t need heat to sweeten up and it makes a delicious table grape.” He said they have a huge plant on their fence at the nursery that keeps on producing. You can drop by for a free tasting!

The fun part is that it’s an American type grape – a  seedling found in Emeryville by the Bay.

Available at Annie’s Annuals ,740 Market Ave. in Richmond – Hours: Daily 9am-5pm (Their annual Butterfly Summit is Saturday, August 25). Photos courtesy of Annie’s Annuals website.
