Emeryville Fire Services (Alameda County Fire Dept.) Division Chief Dave Winnacker (278) finished the Shortest Triathlon Ever with a time of  25:37 taking first place and winning the event. Malachi Leopold from Oakland finished second with a time of 26:43 and Michael Blair from San Francisco finished third with a time of 28:41.

Kelly Emo from Campbell won first place in the women’s division with a time of 30:10  and finished fifth overall. Elise Jackson from San Lorenzo took second place with a time of 31:41 and Emeryville resident Bailey Langner took third place in the women’s division with a time of 37:44.

The race starts with a 100 yard SWIM in a warm swimming pool and  then it’s off on a 2.5 mi BIKE – flat ride through Emeryville, followed by a 2.1 RUN through Bay St.

Thirty-five athletes participated from Albany, Campbell, Dublin, Emeryville, Fremont, Hayward, Piedmont, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Sunnyvale and Vallejo. There were eleven athletes from Emeryville including the entire City Council – Mayor Scott Donahue, Vice Mayor John Bauters, Council Members Christian Patz, Diane Martinez and Alexandra Medina.

After four years, the pool is back and the Shortest Triathlon Ever will grow again. Congrats to all participants. And plan for the 10th Shortest Triathlon Ever in April 2018!
