Commuters Embrace New Ferry Service

Prop SF is now servicing Emeryville from the Emeryville Marina commercial dock to San Francisco Pier 15 (near the Exploratorium) and back. Their small and comfortable ferries have individual seats, WI-FI, USB charging and bike racks. They operate Mon. – Fri. with morning and afternoon pickups. You must buy tickets online ahead of time, as they do not allow walk-ups.  (Buy nine tickets and your tenth ride is free.) You can also call  (650) 503-3779 for booking. It’s about a twelve minute ride for $9. Limited parking is available and is only $3 all day for travelers. Find out how to get there and where to park by watching a quick instructional video.

screen-shot-2016-11-02-at-7-12-10-pmOriginally offering ferry service only for Fortune 500 companies over the last years, Prop SF is now offering this revolutionary and fun means of travel to the public. With nine ports and 16 routes, all of their vessels are U.S. Coast Guard inspected and their leadership team makes your ride affordable, quick and safe. “An important driving force when we founded the company,” says CEO and Captain James Jaber, “was that we could improve people’s lives. That is at the core of our business. We can help people change their habits and get on the boat!”

It seems that a 12 min. ride to work in the morning on our beautiful San Francisco Bay would be a refreshing and inspirational way to start the day. No more bumper to bumper or searching desperately for parking at BART. Park, ride and relax. Though there is some parking, Emery Go Round would also be a great way to get down to the ferry dock in Emeryville. Next marina story: Improvements and Changes at the Emeryville Marina.

Fishing Reportimg_2741

It’s all happening down at the docks in Emeryville. During the first seven days in December Fish Emeryville sent out two boats with 160 anglers. The catch? 1,600 Dungeness Crab, 42 Lingcod and 1,297 Rockfish.  That’s a lot of crab.

Fish Emeryville is located at 3310 Powell St. in the Emeryville Marina and specializes in fishing trips outside the Golden Gate as well as in the SF Bay. Knowledgeable captains ensure a safe and rewarding experience out on the water.  You can reach them at (510) 652-3403 or info@fishemeryville.com. They also have a hotline number: (510) 652-3474. You can now buy your fishing license online. Directions here.

Don’t Miss the Last Week to View the Emeryville Art Exhibition

WHEN: Fri., Oct. 7 until Sun., Oct. 30

WHERE: 1550 Park Ave in Emeryville

WHAT: 30th Annual Emeryville Art Exhibition

“Every day hundreds of artists are working in Emeryville and this juried 30th-logoexhibition is their yearly showcase,” explains Sharon Wilchar, exhibition coordinator. “The positive transformation of our city over the past 30 years is impressive. As a player in enhancing the cultural vibrancy of our city and engaging the community through the arts, Emeryville Celebration of the Arts is proud to have been a partner in this transformation.”

100 artists who work or live in Emeryville transformed 1550 Park Ave. – the Pelco Refrigeration building donated by 1550 Park LLC – into a living exhibit of paintings, sculptures, photographs, ceramics and textile arts. In its 30th year, running until Sun., Oct. 30, the show celebrates the talent and creativity that abounds in this 1.2 square mile city from 11am-6pm daily.

Prominent artists who have contributed to the Annual Emeryville Art Exhibition over the years include photographer Richard Misrach, sound sculptor Bill Fontana and painter Marc Foster Grant who, with his wife Jeanne Allen, founded San Francisco’s Jeanne-Marc clothing company.

A dozen artists from the 45th Street Artists’ Cooperative, who contributed work to the first exhibition in 1987, will show new work this year – including painters Edythe Bresnahan and M. Louise Stanley, textile artist Ana Lisa Hedstrom, photographer Kim Harrington and directors and co-founders of Kala Art Institute Archana Horsting and Yuzo Nakano. All works on display in the exhibition are available for purchase.

Emeryville Art Exhibition Turns 30!

Painting the town for its 30th year, the 30th-logoEmeryville Art Exhibition will run from Sat., Oct. 8 through Sun., Oct. 30, from 11am-6pm daily at 1550 Park Ave. in Emeryville. Opening Night is Fri., Oct. 7, from 6 – 9pm, with live music by The doRiaN Mode: Vintage Jazz & Blues. A no-host bar will raise funds for the Emeryville Youth Art Program.
The East Bay enclave of Emeryville is well known for its diverse arts community and this juried exhibition serves as the city’s annual celebration of its thriving collective creativity, expressing the talents of those individuals who live or work here.

Troy Ziel has two pieces in the exhibit from his work Storm Over the Fair – inspired at the Marin Fairgrounds on an unusually warm night with amazing storm clouds. He says he is a landscape photographer but enjoys the rare moments when people, environment and weather come together, as it did that night in Marin.

You’re Spotted! Only at the Fairgrounds… Troy Ziel

Flying Around Yoyo and You’re Spotted spark the nostalgia of the fair as well as the child in all of us. This year will be my 10th year participating in the Emeryville Art Show since I moved here from San Francisco in 2006,” explains ZIel. “Our little city packs a huge punch when it comes to conceptual local art. I wanted to be a part of it right from the beginning because creative expression is important as it can inspire conversation or awaken creativity in others.

“I also enjoy the fact that the art exhibit is juried, ensuring the quality of artwork which is very eclectic and varied. Even as a participant in the show, every year I am in awe of the work that is produced by the local community. It’s wonderful to just be a part of it and the gallery experience we create together every year.”

Emeryville Art Exhibition is open to artists of all media and includes paintings, sculpture, photographs, ceramics, textiles, and glass works. Now in its milestone 30th year, the exhibition continues to uncover emerging talent, along with new

work by established artists. This annual arts event represents the unique character of Emeryville, a city that is small in size but grand in the scale and spirit of its creative community.

The annual exhibition is held at a different location each year – generously donated by a local Emeryville business. The 2016 Exhibition site is located at 1550 Park Ave. in Emeryville.
