A New Music History Course with Pete Elman – LIVE

Pete Elman returns to Rhythmix with a brand-new in-person course. In Sweet Harmony, Elman will examine the great vocal groups* of American Popular music from the 1950s to the 1970s, taking students on a journey through six different eras and genres.

All students will receive a special gift: One of Pete’s instrumental CDs and/or a signed copy of his acclaimed 2013 children’s book, Seasons, Rhymes in Time.

*This course excludes Motown groups, which are covered in Elman’s Motown course.

Week 1: 1950-1960 gospel and doo-wop: Soul Stirrers, Flamingos, Moonglows, Platters

Week 2: 1950s and 60s R&B: Drifters, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Coasters, Isley Brothers

Week 3: 1960s pop/rock: Ronettes, Shirelles, Shangri-Las, Crystals

Week 4: 1960s pop/rock: Four Seasons, Jay and the Americans, Dion and the Belmonts, Righteous Brothers

Week 5: 1960s and 70s pop/R&B: Pointer Sisters, Mamas and Papas, 5th Dimension, Staple Singers

Week 6: 1960s and 70s pop/R&B: Impressions, O’Jays, Spinners, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes

*This event will be held in-person in Rhythmix theater. All guests will be required to show physical proof of COVID-19 Vaccination along with a valid ID, or a negative COVID-19 test (taken within 72 hours of each event date) upon entry. For the health and safety of our community, participants will be asked to wear masks inside the building.
