Welcome from the Mayor of Emeryville

Hello and welcome to Emeryville on the Bay. Thinking of visiting? Besides being only ten minutes away from San Francisco, host city of the 34th America’s Cup challenge, Emeryville has 2 marinas, 850 slips, 4 major hotels, over 30 fine dining restaurants & cafes and lots of shopping. Plus, there are unlimited ways to play here – from windsurfing, sailing and kayaking to hiking the Bay Trail & Emeryville ArtWalk.

I want to thank all of you who donated your time for our Shoreline Cleanup April 20. We picked up 20 bags of trash and 6 bags of recycling – enough trash and recycling goods to fill up a pick-up truck. We also found 10 syringes and some larger items like a patio chair and pillows. Your cleanup efforts make a difference.

There also is an ongoing cleanup in Emeryville. You may have noticed folks wearing orange or green vests walking along the Marina (or throughout the city) toting white trash bags and picking up trash. Workers come to us through the Sheriff’s Work Alternative Program, which enables screened individuals to work off traffic fines by helping clean up the environment. In 2012 they removed 101 tons of trash from our city.

Keeping Emeryville Green has landed the City of Emeryville the prestigious California Association for Local Economic Development Grand Prize for Economic Development Partnerships in recognition of the EmeryStation Greenway. It honors the partnership between the City and Wareham Properties in the cleanup and development of the 139,000 square foot mixed-use bioscience project on 2.4 acres on Hollis at Powell Street. A wonderful addition is that the project created a new public Green space on the corner with a significant work of public art. Plan your next walk through our great City on the Greenway.

I look forward to seeing you around Emeryville on the Bay.

Kurt Brinkman, Mayor of Emeryville.

This year you will start and return to City Hall with a one-mile run, 2.5 mile bike and a 2.1 mile run and then enjoy an outdoor breakfast and health fair. This race is so short, anyone can do it!  Details here.

Give back to the earth and help us clean up the northern shoreline of Emeryville on Sat., Apr. 20. Meet City staff and volunteers at 9:00am at Chevy’s Parking Lot to pick up debris at the Shorebird Park shoreline, Point Emery Park shoreline, and all points in-between. Our Earth Day celebration is from 11am-3pm at Doyle Hollis Park. More information about the cleanup and Earth Day see the City’s website.
