Event Details

The blues jam session at Swig Bar in San Francisco is considered the longest-running jam session on the West Coast, dating back to 1947 when a Navy man returning from duty bought the club at 561 Geary Street. Current jam session host Ed Ivey started playing at the jam in 1994 at the club, then known as The Blue Lamp Lounge. Ivey has remained at weekly event ever since, almost twenty years on. What sets this jam session apart from any other jam? We don’t do a signup sheet, emphasize less-experienced players and never turn any performer away. Our dance floor has become a favorite for local swing dance fans, you will see some of the best moves ever from our talented dancers. We provide guitar amps, drums and bass amp, and often have a keyboard player join us. The bottom line about this jam session is that the host band is there to encourage and support new or returning players, singers and dancers. SF is a world-class music scene and we never know who will walk in – past notables include Coco Montoya, Dave Matthews, Boz Scaggs, Tommy Tutone, and many others.
